Jackson's 2006 Soccer Season

October
21, 2006. Tournament Semi-Final - Jackson's team finished the regular
season with the 2nd best record in the league. They played the third
seeded team in the tournament semi-final game. It was the same team that
beat them in the season closer. They went down two goals early, but scored
in the third quarter and were closing fast when the game ended. Jackson
played forward and played well. I was very proud of him and his whole
team. He was lucky to play with a great group of kids this year.
October
14, 2006. Game Seven -
Jackson's team ended the season with a 5-2 record following a 0-2 loss. The opposing team was a
really good one. I was impressed when Jackson's team beat them in game
three of the season. The referee didn't show up and after thirty minutes,
the coaches decided to play without one. On the first kick of the game,
the ball sailed through Jackson's team and slipped through the goalies fingers.
I think the absence of the ref and the whistle had them a little unprepared for
the start of the game. A substitute ref finally showed up and the game ran
a lot smoother from that point on.

Jackson
usually runs to get near the ball, even if he doesn't get a lot of kicks in.
But he fell in the first few minutes and was stepped on by a bigger kid.
From that point on he was completely shell shocked. He actually ran away
from the ball when it came toward him. And he cried, a lot. We
assumed that he was playing hurt. But when we talked to him at half-time,
he said that he wasn't hurt, he was scared. He said that he had been
scared ever since he was hit in the face in game four. But he went right
back in on that day, and played fine during game six. So I don't know.
He sat out the third quarter, then played defense during the fourth. He
did a lot better on defense than he did on offense. Hopefully he'll shake
his jitters off by the playoffs.
October 9, 2006. Game Six - A
1-0 win brought the record to 5-1. Jackson played the first quarter as a
forward and the third quarter as a fullback.
October 2, 2006. Game Five - Jackson missed this game because he was home sick, so no photos. The team's leading scorer had to leave the game sick after the first period and the game ended 0-1, making it the first loss. Their record for the season is 4-1.

September 30, 2006. Game Four -
A very hard fought 2-1 win brought Jackson's team to 4-0. Not long
into the first quarter, while running forward, Jackson was hit so hard in the
face with the ball that his glasses flew off and his entire body left the
ground. You could hear the line of parents collectively gasp. The
game stopped and his coach walked with him off the field. I knew that he
would be okay when I saw him give another coach a high five. And within
just a few minutes he was up practicing and re-entered the game before the
quarter was out. After the game, he ran up to me and cheerfully said "I
bet that is going to leave a bruise!" My sister
Deana took today's game photos.
September 25, 2006. Game Three - A great 1 to 0 victory against a very tough team bringing them to a 3-0 record. The lone point was scored on a penalty kick. This time the other team kept Jackson's team on their heels. They spent much of the game fighting to keep the other team out of the goal. But their defense held and continued their streak of not allowing any points this season. Jackson played three quarters as an offensive midfielder.
September 23, 2006. Game Two - Their second consecutive 2 to 0 win has Jackson's team at 2-0 on the season. There are twelve kids on the team, but they were down to nine this morning. One of the players had to sit out with a broken arm. But even with the kid that scored both goals last week not there, they did fantastic. The ball stayed on the opponents side of the field %90 of the time and both the defense and offense played great. It was also fun that Amy was able to cheer for this game. Jackson played one quarter as a fullback and three as a midfielder.
September 16, 2006. Game One - Jackson's team won their first game 2 to 0 giving them a 1-0 overall record. Jackson played fullback for the first two quarters, then set out a quarter before finishing the game as a forward. Because his team kept the ball on the opposing team's side of the field almost the whole game, Jackson didn't see much action while on defense. But he had a lot of fun on offense and was excited that they won. He was also excited that his cousins Caleb, Isabelle and Seth, his Papa and his Aunt Melanie came to cheer for him. It was an absolutely beautiful morning and a great day for soccer.
