Tuesday, February 28th, 2017. Our friend Catrina took this photo of Ben and some of his 7th grade friends at one of the recent basketball games.

Saturday, February 25th, 2017 - An exciting, well-executed win over Albemarle in the 3rd round.  The gym was packed.  Papa, Izzy and Eric all came to watch the game.  They were tied after one quarter, but the Bears scored 28 points in the second quarter.  Albemarle in contrast only had 27 total points at the break.  The great photos of Jackson below are courtesy of Jason O.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 - We followed the same routine as on Thursday.  Pick up Ben at the golf course, scoot over to the Dairy Center for double-cheeseburgers and seasoned fries, then to the high school to watch Jackson play basketball.  This time we were also joined by my mom, sister Deana and niece Izzy.  The Bears won convincingly and get one more home game on Saturday in the 3rd round of the state playoffs.  After the game Ben joined Deana, Mo and Izzy at Chilis for a late night dinner.

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017.  With golf practice rained out, Ben and Amy went to the driving range to hit a bucket of balls.

Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 - Jackson hit a really nice shot near the end of Mt Airy's win over Cherryville in the opening round of the State Playoff. It reminded me a lot of a shot he made all the time at RCC.  Unbeknownst to him though, he was bleeding as a result of an elbow he took to the head while rebounding.  Because of the blood he had to come out of the game and finished on the bench.

Ben had his first golf team practice at Cross Creek Country Club after school.  From there he and I went to the Dairy Center where we were soon joined by Amy who was just finishing up her evening of volunteer work at Medical Ministries.

Sunday, February 19th, 2017.  Our new Rhode Island Red, Pretty Pru, is far more adventurous than any of our other chickens.  She walks all the way around the house, ventures into our neighbor's yard and even crosses the street.  By contrast, Stardust, our Welsummer, is pretty chicken.  All of our hens have enjoyed the warm weather an extended opportunities to forage.

Friday night, after Jackson's team lost in the Northwest 1A conference championship to Winston-Salem Prep, we relaxed at the house.  On Saturday, I played both boys in games of 1-on-1 basketball.  Jackson discovered that he can fully grab the rim with two hands, which is pretty exciting.  That is as high as I was ever able to jump and he is shorter than I am, so the kid has better hops than his old man.  Jackson had friends Harrison, Grey and Simon over to our cabin later that evening.  Ben, Amy and I did some grocery shopping in Winston-Salem before coming home to watch the NBA All-Star competitions on TV.  On Sunday, after church, I went for a 25 mile bike ride, making a 2000ft climb at Orchard Gap.  As soon as I rolled back into the house Ben wanted us to play basketball.  Not surprisingly, he won again.  Amy spent her afternoon at Deana's Yoga studio at an Essential Oils class.

Monday, February 13th, 2017 - A win over North Stokes in the first round of the NCHSAA NorthWest 1A Conference Tournament.  More photos on Jackson's basketball page.

Sunday, February 12th, 2017. Ben had friends Dylan, Zeb, Caden, Weston and Matthew over to our cabin for a night of Splatmaster and Texas Hold'Em.  Papa came up to fry chicken, then the next morning I cooked country ham, bacon and eggs for the boys.  The weather was perfect, hitting the upper 70s.

Thursday, February 9th, 2017 - Tournament Champions!  Ben had the flu, but played one quarter in the first half.  Mason was also sick and unable to play.  So our Zip Foods team played with a short bench, dug in deep and came away with a double-overtime win in the championship game.     In my four years of coaching Sr Hoops, I have made it to the championship game 3 times and came away with the trophy twice.  This is Ben's 3rd championship in 3 years at RCC.
Jackson played at Atkins, so we missed that game.  Thanks to our friend Catrina for sharing photos from the game.

2/7/17 - The Bears completed their sweep of Elkin.

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 - After three losses to Subway, we won 71-56 in the first round of the tournament.  Our team played their smartest, full four quarters of ball yet, especially in the 4th.  Ben and Rorlonte worked tirelessly in man coverage to limit the top two scorers on the opposing team.  Clay and Sam had great nights offensively, going for 37 and 24.  Rorlonte also hit his season high with 4 points.  Ben scored 5 and Cayden 1.  Cayden rebounded great down the stretch and was crucial in extending our possessions.
