2010
1st Place Regular Season
( 5-1-2 record )
2nd Place Tournament
Saturday, October 30, 2010. A narrow 0-1 loss in
the championship game against our good friends, Blue Ridge Orthopedics (dark
blue). It was the first time we were held scoreless all season, the result
of good goalie work and a well practiced defense on the opposing team. Our
own defense played great, but the ball slipped through on a 4th quarter corner
kick. We were focused heavily on having fun all the way to the
championship though and I think our team enjoyed the game, even though we lost.
Of course, knowing that they would get a 1st place trophy for winning the
regular season probably didn't hurt. What a fun year. The 2010 Pee
Wee Perkins & Associates Green Team was very special. Todd Perry was a
great assistant coach, every player was fantastic, the parents and sponsor all
were simply top notch. Ben now says that he likes soccer better than
baseball.
Tuesday,
October 19th, 2010. Ben's first 1st Place trophy will soon be on his
shelf thanks to a win in tonight's last regular season soccer game. Our
team finished with a 5-1-2 record, good enough for a tie for 1st place!
Our mantra all season has been "HAVE FUN!!" and they certainly seem to be doing
just that. I know I am.
September
20th, 2010. Three
games into the season and Team Green is still undefeated. They won the
second game 2-0 and won game three with a score of 1-0. All three
games have been extremely exciting. Last night's match was close till the
end. Ben made two fantastic game saving stops at goal in the closing
minutes. Once again, every player contributed big time to the win.
What a fun season so far. (Photos courtesy of Deana Heath)
Ben
had his first soccer game last night. Very exciting. He is our
starting goalie and made at least three great dives to get the ball during the
first quarter. The second quarter was rough and the ball stayed in front
of our goal. We went into the half down 0-2. I think Ben was a
little shell shocked after all the close range action that took place right in
front of him. It didn't look good, but the kids rebounded in the second
half, scoring three goals and allowing none. It was a very surprising and
exciting come from behind win against an equally great little team of soccer
players. As the coach, I walked away from the game very happy at the
effort from all the kids. (photos below are courtesy of
