Surry Stars 2nd Grade AAU
3/31/2012.
The 2nd grade Stars notched their first win in only their second tournament,
beating the 3rd grade West Wilkes Whirlies 33-22. They went 1-2 during the
tournament, but already look much improved. Ben scored 4 points in game
three.

After practicing for the first time as a team yesterday, Ben
and the newly formed 2nd grade Surry Stars AAU team played their first games
today against two 3rd grade teams. I missed the first game due to work,
but caught the second one. Ben scored one of their four baskets in that
game and I thought the kids did pretty good, all things considered. They
certainly have a million things to learn about playing ball at this level, but
they have a good coach and I
think they will fare well by the time next year
rolls around if they practice hard and continue to gain experience in
tournaments like this one.
RCC Recreational League - Court Kid
Boys (6-8 years old)
Coach Delane Heath, Assistant Coach Kevin Key
We ended our season with a loss in the opening round of the tournament. We were the 6th seed playing the 3rd seed. It was a close game, Ben played exceptionally well and even hit a 21 foot jump shot from the top of the key. We had a short party with snacks and awards in the Kid's Club room, then said goodbye to the team.
Ben's team has been competitive in all but one of our games, with two losses coming in overtime, and ended the season with a 2-5 record, which puts us 6th out of 8 teams. The tournament starts this Saturday. Ben has a great season, but takes the losses very hard. He is a really good point guard and has scored a lot. We have actually, I think, done a really good job distributing the ball on the team, which is pretty difficult at this age and have had 5 different leading scores this season, plus every player scored at least one basket during regulation.

Second
win in a row improves our record to 2-3. It was a good game against our
friend Abby's team. All the boys played really well. Ben
scored 9. He scored 12 in last week's win against our friend Josh's team.
I've got my fingers crossed that the kids can make it three in a row with
another win next weekend.

camp. He had just a phenomenal week and really enjoyed getting to
play with friends during his Christmas break. At the end of camp Ben was
presented awards for being the Knock Out Champ, the Hot Shot Champ and the Most
Outstanding Player in the boy's 6-8 year old division. He won every award
except for Most Improved.
