Saturday, April 29th, 2017. A few photos from Jackson's Junior/Senior Prom.

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017. Jackson was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Then celebrated a great basketball season that evening with the team.

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017.  It has been nice catching up with Jackson and hearing about his adventure.
Saturday, April 22nd, 2017.  Jackson is back from an 8 day cross-country trip with 11 other teenage boys and Eric, our town's Young Life leader.  He visited the Grand Canyone, Arches National Park, San Francisco, Monterey, Zion National Park, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Las Vegas and more.

This afternoon, as I rode my bike along Pedigo Ridge with rain pounding down, a dozen mules came sprinting up from the middle of their field to gallop along side me for the length of their fence. Their hooves were pounding, mud was flying and I gave them my best cowboy howl as we raced to see who was the fastest.
A little earlier, I was twenty miles into my ride and enjoying being on the same roads in Claudville I pedaled as a kid when I heard the first claps of thunder. I decided it would be smart to shorten my route by taking a bigger highway for a few miles. A mile or so later the floodgates opened and a heavy head wind kicked up. Rain poured down so hard that I could not see anything. It did not make any sense that the rain hurt so much until I realized I had marble size hail bouncing off me and accumulating on the road. My saving grace was that the storm was so bad that I didn't have to worry about cars because they were pulling off the road. I myself was looking for a tree or carport to duck under when I remembered a story my friend Joe told me during our drive to Tennessee last week. It was about a cyclist that won the hearts of the Belgians by racing through a snow storm. So I put my head down, doubled my effort and thought "for the love of those crazy Belgians!"
When I pulled into the gas station, cars were packed under the awnings, hiding from the hail. If there was someone in one of those cars that was not laughing at the guy riding a bike in a hail storm, I did not see them. I looked like I had chickenpox from all the red spots on me.
I have to say, of my bike rides so far, this was the best.

Friday, April 21, 2017.  Amy, Ben and I went to see The Fast 8.  After watching all 7 of the Fast and Furious movies last summer, we were very excited to see our first one as a theatrical release, especially Amy.  Before the movie we went to Chili Rojo, which was our last meal with just the three of us.  Jackson returns tomorrow from his adventure.  Earlier in the day I made my 2nd ride to the top of Pilot Mt.

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017.  We spent the last two days in Colonial Heights visiting Alan, Nicole and Charla.  Tonight we got to see Nicole score a goal in her team's big win over Hopewell. Alan took the day off from work and spent it with us touring Petersburg.  He and Ben hit golf balls at the driving range and we had a very nice lunch downtown.  I started the day with a mountain bike ride at Fort Clifton.

Sunday, April 15th, 2017.  Our first Easter spent apart.  Jackson spent his on the rim of the Grand Canyon, while Amy, Ben and I celebrated, first at home, then at Deana and Martin's house.

Saturday, April 14th, 2017. My good friend Joe and I traveled to Tellico Plains, TN for three days of paddling on the Tellico River.  We camped with buddies James and John and paddled with many other good friends. When I arrived home this evening, I took Ben and his friend Luis to Winston-Salem.  We wanted to do the after-dark session at the trampoline park, but it was sold out, so we played miniature golf instead, then capped the night off with a stop at Krispy Kreme.

Sunday, April 9th, 2017.  We spent an amazing weekend at the Windy Gap Young Life camp in Weaverville, NC.  We  jumped off telephone poles, rode giant swings, played basketball, volleyball and octaball.  We rode water slides, went swimming, played pool, participated in fun camp games, sang songs, attended club meetings and completely exhausted ourselves.

Friday, April 7th, 2017. I rode my bike to the top of Pilot Mountain during my lunch break, which is something that would have seemed crazy not so long ago.

Later that evening we piled into the van, along with Jackson's friends Simon and Harrison, for the trek to the Windy Gap Young Life camp in Weaverville, NC for their Family Weekend.

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017.  We celebrated our niece Izzy's 16th birthday with family at Chili's.

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017. A beautiful night for a group ride. Tonight's ride was to Ararat, VA along The Hollow, Trucker Road and Pedigo Ridge.

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017. Ben scored another hat trick in his team's friendly in Lambsburg. More photos  here.
After the game I rode my bike to the top of Pipers Gap, then up the parkway to Orchard Gap, where I descended and rode back into Mt Airy.  This was my biggest ride to date.
Sunday, April 2nd, 2017. Mount Airy had their first food truck festival and it was awesome!
Saturday, April 1st, 2017.  I spent an awesome day kayaking Whitetop Laurel with good friends Vince and Kevin, then spent my evening driving Ben and his friend Luis around Winston-Salem while Amy celebrated her birthday with friends at the winery on Main Street.
