Yesterday, on Jackson's last day of freedom, he, Ben and Amy went to the
Winston-Salem Children's Museum (photos
here). Our friend
Brooke had invited
them, which meant Ben got to play with his good buddy Landon. At bedtime I
asked Ben to tell me about the museum. He said "they had a garden and Brookie helped
me work in it. They had a grocery store with DOOBIE DOOS!! (doobie
doos are what we call fruit snacks because the first ones Jackson ever ate were
shaped like Scooby Doo characters) And they had rubber duckies in
pretend water." I like the photos of pretty little Ella in the flower
garden.
Then last night we had open-house at Jackson's school, which went well. Jackson's new teacher seems very nice. The only disappointing thing was that none of Jackson's friends from pre-school or kindergarten are in his room . Today was Jackson's first day and it went well. He had been pretty nonchalant about going back to school, but I don't think he had really thought it all out. Like that he would be in a different classroom, with different kids and a different teacher. This morning Amy walked with him to school and he started crying once they reached his room. He said that he was scared and nervous and didn't know anyone. But I think he had a good day and was in a good mood when he got off the bus this afternoon. Pee-Wee fall soccer try-outs were scheduled for this evening, but luckily they were rained out. Ben's open house was tonight and the soccer try-outs would have made for one really, really busy day.
Ben enjoyed his open house and Jackson enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane. Ben does have a buddy in his class, a friend from music time and story time. He was very comfortable and played with lots of toys. It helps that he has Jackson's teacher from when he started pre-school. Jackson walked the halls of the pre-school and said "these were the good old days." He went upstairs to see the teacher from his four year old room and gave her a hug. Last night he did the same thing with his kindergarten teacher. Now that he is in first grade, he has nothing but fond memories of all his past classes and teachers. They were all the best. Something tells me that he'll be saying the same thing next year about first grade.
School, homework, soccer, karate, pre-school...Summer is definitely over.
