Friday, August 11th, 2006.  Amy's running group ran 5.5 miles earlier this week, which was a personal best for Amy.  That short-lived record was eclipsed this morning when they ran 6.5 miles.

Jackson took much of the Summer off from karate class, but is now back in full swing.  He didn't start back in the best form and for the first few classes had trouble taking things seriously.  But I was really proud of how hard he worked during last night's class.  I guess it just took a few days for him to get back into gear.  There are a couple of good photos of Jackson breaking boards at his Sensei's website posted under the Open House link.

Jackson's new Power Ranger backpack arrived in the mail yesterday.   No back-to-school task is as important as picking out the right backpack/lunchbox combo.  Ben picked his backpack out on Main Street.  It's a moose.  Yep, a big, soft, furry moose that you wear on your back.   It's really pretty darn cute.  Ben loves it.  He starts pre-school in two weeks and will go two mornings a week.  He will have the same teacher Jackson had when he was three and seems pretty excited about "going to school.".

Today's photo is from August 2004.  I was reminded of it when my sister posted her hummingbird photos earlier this week.  This was one of Grandma Sue's hummingbirds.  Sue would have been so excited and worried about Ben starting pre-school.  We miss her.

When Ben says Train Track, it sounds something like TFrain TFrack, but not exactly.  I think Ben has invented new letters to replace T and J, ones that I can't pronounce.

Jackson seems to have hit a growth spurt recently.  When I look at him, he looks like a first grader.  It can be shocking sometimes.

Our niece Isabelle started kindergarten yesterday.  Congratulations on a good first day Izzy!

Amy and the boys did our week's grocery shopping this morning, then met me at the house for lunch before going to Main Street to eat ice cream and play a game of basketball on the sporting good store's indoor court.  Amy asked them what they wanted to do before Summer vacation ended and those were two of the things on their list.

Tonight we went to our friend Dylan's nine year old birthday party.  This is a photo of Jackson and Dylan at Dylan's birthday party three years ago.  In that photo, Dylan is the age Jackson is now, six, and Jackson is the age Ben is now, three.  Jackson cried at Dylan's five year old birthday party when they cut the Buzz Lightyear cake.  Jackson was two years old and didn't like that they were taking Buzz apart and eating him.  Due to rain, Dylan's pool party was changed to a movie party, so we all got to see another opening night movie.  We saw Zoom, which was actually pretty good.
