The pretty little poser in pink is our niece Nicole.
We spent Saturday night and much of Sunday at Nicole's house in Colonial
Heights. I told Nicole that she really knows how to smile for the camera.
She said "Yeah, everybody wants me to go into fashion or be a model or
something." Nicole's big brother Jimmy came home with
us and will spend the next two weeks in Mayberry. The weekend was long,
hot, tiring and extremely sad, but we got everything done that needed to get done and made it home
safely, even though we had some battery issues before starting the trip.
We thought we fixed the battery problem before we left, but just to make sure, we left the Suburban running
the whole time. One of us would take the
kids to the bathroom and the other would stay with the car. And now that
Ben is going to the potty, we had to make a LOT of stops. Today was spent
washing dishes, doing laundry, unpacking the U-Haul trailer in 100F/38C degree
heat, unpacking luggage, re-arranging furniture, etc... and of course, dealing
with Ben through it all. Dealing with Ben is job enough right now.
Tonight we finally moved our piano out. I've got two things to tell you
about pianos. One, they are big. Two, they are very, very stinking
heavy. Thanks to Papa and Eric for lending their backs to the project.
In other news, Amy found Jackson's VHS copy of Elmo Says Boo that has been missing for years. She found it in the case for a Rescue Hero movie that Ben wanted to watch today. Elmo Says Boo is the movie that Ben obsessed over FOREVER before we broke down and bought it for him on his Birthday. For months he proclaimed that on his birthday he would get Elmo Says Boo and a trumpet. This is the movie that we could only find online in DVD format and that I paid to have shipped overnight to our house in time for his party. This is the movie that he only watched ONCE for 30 seconds before running out of the room because it was too scary. This is the movie that he now wants absolutely nothing to do with and that we now have TWO copies of.
And the THIRTY DOLLAR trumpet that we ordered from Do Re Mi for Ben's birthday? He lost the mouthpiece ON THE SAME DAY HE GOT IT! It's been a month and we still haven't found it. Thirty dollars and it lasted him less than two hours. Maybe next year I'll just roll up four twenty dollar bills, stick them in his cake and light them. At least then we'd save money on candles.
