Monday the 22nd. I am very happy to report that Jackson had a good day at school and bounced off the bus this afternoon. He said he had an excellent morning (they had music time), lunch was so-so, then this afternoon was excellent thanks to his new friend. We are very pleased to hear that Jackson has made his first new friend at school. He also nailed his lower case letter recognition, even that pesky Times New Roman g, so he gets to move on to numbers 11-30. This is our first five day week and so far we are off to a flying start.
Mount Airy has a diverse population and I like that this diversity is represented in Jackson's school. I loved Jackson's pre-school, the teachers, the curriculum, and the facilities were all top notch. But the photo from his graduation looks like some sort of sci-fi experiment. It's hundreds of brown haired fair skinned children with absolutely no shades of brown skin or black hair represented. Jackson has zero race awareness and I would love for him to maintain that until he is older. He knows that no two people look alike, except for twins I guess. So different is just different. I have black hair and green eyes. He has brown hair and blue eyes. There are a zillion different combinations and why would he consider anything particularly special about any of them. People in different parts of the world speak different languages, no biggie. We are all different, period. But I know that he will soon encounter children with stupid, whoops, I mean racist parents and at that point or before we will have to prepare him for their stupidity. Isn't that just absurd.
