Sunday the 21st. We spent a hot August afternoon
playing in the swimming hole above our cabin.
Great way to cool off, the kids love it. Plus it's just not as hot in those shady hollows.
Emma went with us and enjoyed getting to run around the woods for a change.
We played for a very long time and were probably about ready to start the hike
out when I heard the chh chh chh sound of something dropping through the leaves
above my head. Then thump, a snake, probably a common water snake, landed
a few feet to my right at the edge of the waterfall. Luckily it hit a
branch laying on the ledge, which slowed it down and gave Jackson time to swim
out. Probably not a water moccasin, but it's hard to tell when you are
running away. No one really felt like swimming with the snake, so we
called it a day. Before we left Claudville though we stopped and visited
my grandmother
Hava Heath, bringing home
bags and bags of goodies from the garden. The other big event today was
that Ben's crib came down. We put it back in the box upstairs. It's
the first time his room has ever looked like a bedroom and it's strange.
It went from nursery to playroom with Jackson, then back to nursery for Ben.
And now it's a little boy's room for the first time.
