Tuesday
the 26th. Happy Birthday to Me! Thanks for all the birthday
wishes! The photo on the right is my sixth birthday (1975).
Aside from the 1975 photo, all of today's photos are from this week. Jackson made us some very refreshing lemonade yesterday morning. Ben and Sam later sucked the left-over lemons dry. Ben fell asleep one afternoon watching Jackson's television, he looked cute so I took a pic. And the other photo is from last night's very productive bug hunt. Jackson has a great bug collecting kit that his Aunt Sherri gave him. At one point we found an area covered in red ants. Matthew took off running and screamed "Red Ant Tunnel, RUN!!!" Jackson followed right behind him, except he yelled "Ant Huddle, RUN!!!". And then came Sam yelling "Ant Bubble, RUN!!!" So with boys, it doesn't need to make sense, all you need to know is RUN!!! But I have to say that if I am every out somewhere and someone screams "Ant Bubble, RUN!!!", I'm not sticking around to find out what an ant bubble looks like, I'm outta there.
One tip on the bug catching thing. Don't overdo it with the spiders. We caught a cricket, some little flying bug, one huge shiny black thing in the stump, and lots and lots of spiders. We then used dirt and a piece of moss with a tiny two leaf tree growing out of it to make an awesome little bug habitat. What the spiders did was put on one gross scary nature show. The biggest, scariest looking guy immediately went mid-evil on all the smaller guys, taking two out before we decided it was time to ask him to leave the aquarium. At that point the second most scary looking spider came out of hiding to take over the slaughter. All very creepy. I'm shivering right now. And if I wasn't a thirty-six year old man I would say "ewww." And speaking of spiders, Jackson and Amy are about ninety pages into Charlotte's Web. This is the first really long chapter book Jackson has read and he is enjoying the reading time with Mom very much.
After work I enjoyed an ice cold pale ale while grilling out some really great steaks that Amy picked up at the Meat Center. Following that we drove to Claudville for another night of "can Delane learn to roll his kayak?" Well, I didn't, but I was very happy to pull off my first forward flips off the diving board in twenty years. I did four of them aaaaaannnnndddd, that was enough of that. I also did a seal launch off the diving board in the kayak, that was fun. But alas, the roll still alludes me.
