Wednesday
the 22nd. Okay,
tonight is brag night. Jackson and his sparring partner did so well
tonight in
Karate class that they got not one round of
applause, but two. Sensei said that it was the best grappling that he has
seen in a long time and that made Jackson very proud. It really did look
more like a high school wrestling match than a five and six year old on the mat. He is so
determined during the grappling matches that he
manages to stay on top most of the time, even though he is
always undersized. Tonight he even managed to slip into a side hold ( he
asked me later if I had noticed that.) When he did end up on the bottom,
he slipped out, sprung to his feet and immediately ran back in. Of course
his partner did the exact same thing resulting in a head on collision. But
neither slowed down and continued to go for the pin. It's funny that he is
so serious during his matches. He never giggles and usually doesn't get
distracted. Now when he plays soccer it's a whole different story, but
Karate is "his thing" and he so far has been very disciplined. Tonight
when he ran out of the dojo he said "I didn't goof off any tonight!".
Jackson also had a less dramatic second grappling match against a white belt that
is a little bigger than Jackson and Jackson stayed on top the entire match.
And Jackson also had three hours at the pool this morning with his mommy and little
brother.
