Thursday the 10th.
Brooke just sent me these photos of the new baby Kasey James McMichael!
I always have my eye out for other personal websites. For two reasons mainly. One is to get ideas for my own website. Some of the things on our website are, I think, terribly original. Like the Name Index, I've never seen another site, professional or personal, do that. But lots of ideas were completely stolen, like keeping up with the baby's milestones on the web. Some things I think of on my own, like the motorcycle ride log, but later discover that it wasn't a very original idea at all. (Although I think my interactive maps might be unique.) So anyway, through the course of all that looking around I sometimes find sites that I think are pretty cool. That's the second reason, to satisfy that voyeuristic craving left over from my reality tv ban( not that I deny being an old-school Real World fan and Season 1 and 2 Survivor fanatic, but for me that was enough, really, it was.) Through other personal websites I can check out how different people, from other parts of the world, view the world. I prefer photo journals to strict blogs because the photos provide the window into these other parts of the world. But over time most of these sites usually stop updating or just stop being interesting. A few however continue to be favorite stop-off points when browsing the web. This one belonging to Johanna Wandel, Adventures of a Geo-Geek, I found while researching kayaking journals . I loved the trip reports and read them all, if you are a fellow kayaker or outdoor lover, I'm sure you'll enjoy them too, it's just a beautiful area. But I am also a fan of the Talk and Talk-Back section. She also has another site that I enjoy checking in on, it's called The Red Barn Troll. And you won't just find photos from around Ontario, since I've been reading the site she has traveled as far away as Finland and North Baffin Island. Just wanted to pass those links along since you probably wouldn't stumble across them otherwise. Maybe I'll share other little pearls I've found on the web later.
